In 1992, Ted began studying karate with an instructor named Mr. Z. He earned his first degree black belt in 1996. For 11 years, he studied mostly with OKC, then took a 10 year break until Mr. Z persuaded him to come work out with FSDC. Ted now works out and teaches 5 (and sometimes more) classes a week. In March of 2017 was awarded the rank of Yon Dan (4th degree black belt). In 2017 and 2018, the International Isshinryu Hall of Fame honored him as one of the top five Male Instructors of the Year.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in Computer Science and English. For about sixteen years he worked in the computer field (mostly for the phone company), semi-retired to write two books, then worked for the Postal Service. His hobbies include gardening, woodworking, and origami.
