International Competition Awards

2019 Awards

Fifteen students, including many first time national competitors, earned nine awards at the 2019 IHOF tournament.  These included:

Krishna Kiru:  1st place in Black Belt Kumite and 3rd place in Black Belt Kata

Ethan Barrons:  2nd place in Kata and Kumite, 3rd place in Weapons

Noah Bayma:  3rd place in Kata and 4th place in Weapons

Rowan Adomaitis:  3rd place in Kumite

Lara Maun:  4th place in Weapons

2018 Awards

Eleven students, including many first time national competitors, earned five awards at the 2018 IHOF tournament.  These included:

Emily Kasper: 4th place in Jr. Black Belt Kata

Lexi Maxton: 3rd place in Brown Belt Kata

Rachel Manela: 2nd place in kumite, 3rd place in weapons and 4th place in kata

2017 Awards

Seventeen students competed in the 2017 International IHOF tournament, earning twenty-one trophies, including three World Championship titles in Kumite.

Earning first place finishes (our new World Champions): Ian Kosaka, Lizzy Arnold, and Shaelyn Carroll.

2016 Awards

In 2016, twenty students competed in the 2016 International IHOF tournament, earning twenty-three awards, including three World Championship titles and two Grand Championship berths.

Earning first place finishes (our new World Champions) were Neha Gogineni – Jr. Black Belt Kata, Abhay Vora – Jr. Black Belt Weapons, and Trevor Adomaitis for Underbelt Weapons.

Earning second place in Kata were: Shaelyn Carroll and Soorya Ramappan.
Earning second place in Weapons were: Rowan Adomaitis  and Drew Adomaitis.
Earning second place in Kumite were: Amelia Chung, Trevor Adomaitis, Ram Kiru, Krishna Kiru, and Ian Kosaka.

Earning third place in Kata were: Jachin Chung, Ben Matas, Drew Adomaitis and Shashank Swaminathan.
Earning third place in Weapons was: Jachin Chung.
Earning third place in Kumite were: Neha Gogineni and Lizzy Arnold.

Earning fourth place in Weapons was: Shaelyn Carroll.
Earning fourth place in Kumite were: Jachin Chung, Anish Gogineni, and Soorya Ramappan.

2015 Awards

In 2015, six students competed in the 2015 International IHOF tournament, earning seven awards, including two World Championship titles and one Grand Championship berth.

Earning first place finishes (our new World Champion) was Shaelyn Carroll for both Kata and Kumite.

Earning second place in Weapons was: Shaelyn Carroll and Andrew Swanson.
Earning second place in Kumite was: Lizzy Arnold.

Rounding out the field earning a fourth place finish in kata was: Emily Kasper.
Fourth place finishes in kumite was: Emily Kasper.

2014 Awards

In 2014, 29 competitors made the trek to Gatlinburg, Tennessee earning 32 awards, including 2 World Champions.

Earning first place finishes (our new World Champions) were Soorya Ramappan for weapons, and Shashank Swaminathan for kata.

Earning second place in kata was: Joshua Huang, Krishna Kiru, Lizzy Arnold, Shaelyn Carroll, and Tanaz Naterwala.
Earning second place in weapons was: Amelia Chung, Mark Swanson, and Teddy Donahue.
Earning second place in kumite was: Ben Matas, and Lily Kosaka.

Third place in kata went to: Jachin Chung, Neha Gogineni, Ram Kiru, and Soorya Ramappan.
Third place in weapons went to: Andrew Swanson, Jachin Chung, and Shankar Kiru.
Third place in kumite went to: Neha Gogineni

Rounding out the field earning fourth place finishes in kata were: Anjali Joshi, Ben Matas, Mark Swanson, Ryan Swanson, Sonali Joshi, and Teddy Donahue.

2013 Awards

In 2013, 15 competitors made the trek to Gatlinburg, Tennessee earning 20 awards, including 3 World Champions and two berths on the Grand Championship division.

Earning first place finishes (World Champions) were Shaelyn Carroll in kata, Mitchel Huang in weapons and Kathy O’Meara in kumite. Both Shaelyn and Mitchel earned the right to then compete in the Grand Championship division.

Earning second place in kata was: Mitchel Huang, with Mark Swanson taking a second in weapons and Lizzy Arnold, Mitchel Huang and Shaelyn Carroll earning a second place finish in kumite.

Third place went to: James Takeshita, Joshua Huang and Mark Swanson in kata, Kathy O’Meara, and Ryan Swanson in weapons and Mark Swanson in kumite.

Rounding out the field earning fourth place finishes were: Andrew Swanson, Dhruva Vishwanath, and Kathy O’Meara in kata, James Takeshita in weapons and Andrew Swanson in kumite.

2012 Awards

In 2012, FSDC students received a record 62 competition awards which included 12, 1st place World Championships. Earning World titles in kata were: Caleb Desmier, Josh O’Meara, Katelyn Desmier, Krishna Kiru and Shanshank Swaminathan. World titles in weapons were earned by; Alex Pospeshil and Mark Swanson. Kumite World Champions include: Andrew Pospeshil, Josh O’Meara, Krishna Kiru, Lizzy Arnold and Tom Pospeshil. Josh and Krishna also earned the right to compete in the Advanced Grand Championship Division. In the Kata Division, 2nd place trophies went to: Krithika Swaminathan, Mark Swanson, Noah D’Arcy, Ryan Swanson, Tanaz Naterwala and Trina Frick. 3rd place finishes were earned by: Abby O’Meara, Benjamin Matas, Devon DeCaire, Joshua Huang, Mitchel Huang, and Shaelyn Carroll. 4th place went to: Alex Pospeshil, Anthony DeFeo, Justin Frick, Kathy O’Meara, Shankar Kiru and Soorya Ramappan. In the Weapons Division, 2nd place winners were: Katelyn Desmier, Krishna Kiru, Krithika Swaminathan, Ryan Swanson and Trina Frick. 3rd place went to: Benjamin Matas, Mitchel Huang, Shaelyn Carroll, Shashank Swaminathan and Tom Pospeshil. 4th place finishers were: Caleb Desmier, Joshua Huang, Justin Frick, Lizzy Arnold, Shankar Kiru and Soorya Ramappan. In the Kumite Division, 2nd places were earned by Caleb Desmier, Katelyn Desmier, Mark Swanson, Mitchel Huang, Shaelyn Carroll and Tanaz Naterwala. Earning 3rd places were: Alex Pospeshil, Anthony DeFeo, Devon DeCaire and Justin Frick. 4th place went to: Abby O’Meara, Benjamin Matas, Joshua Huang, Ryan T’Giros, Shankar Kiru and Yogesh Mohanraj. Earning medals for their participation were: Abhay Vora, Andrew Swanson, James Takeshita, Ram Kiru and Savanna Frick.

2011 Awards

In 2011, FSDC students received a record 33 Competition Awards, which included 5 first place World Championships. Mr. Tom Pospeshil earned a World Championship in kumite, with Krishna Kiru, Alex Pospeshil, Soorya Ramappan and Tanaz Naterwala being crowned World Champions in kata. Tanaz also earned the right to compete in the prestigious Grand Championship for Jr. Black Belts . In the Weapons Division Alex Pospeshil, Soorya Ramappan, Aditya Savanur and Mark Swanson all received second place finishes, with Rohun Savanur earning a third place trophy. Tanaz Naterwala and Andrew Swanson each took fourth. In the Kata Division, Lizzy Arnold, Mitchel and Joshua Huang, and Andrew Swanson all took second place awards. Third place winners included, Aditya and Rohun Savanur, and Cyd Spencer, while Shaelyn Carroll, Ashwin Vangipuram, Shankar Kiru, Ryan Swanson and Savanna Frick all received a fourth place finish. In the Kumite Division, Abby O’Meara earned second place ranking while Krishna Kiru, Kathy O’Meara, Alex Pospeshil, Soorya Ramappan and Mark Swanson all earned a third place trophy. Finishing in fourth place were Lizzy Arnold, Josh O’Meara and Belle Spencer. Receiving medals for their competitive efforts were: Yogesh Mohanraj, Ram Kiru, Andrew Pospeshil and James Takeshita.

2010 Awards

In 2010, FSDC students received a record 31 Competition Awards, which included 6 first place, World Championships. Miss Devon DeCaire earned a World Championship for weapons, while Joshua and Mitchel Huang each received World Championships for kata. Mitchel also earned the right to compete in the prestigious Grand Championship for Jr. Black Belts. Receiving World Championships for their kumite skills were Tom Pospeshil, Alex Raeon, and Mark Swanson. In the weapons division Tanaz Naterwala, Annabel Spencer, and Andrew Swanson all received second place finishes. Mitchel Huang, Alex Pospeshil, Ryan Swanson, and James Takeshita all earned third place trophies while Alex Raeon and Mark Swanson each took fourth. In the kata division, Devon DeCaire, Tanaz Naterwala, Alex Pospeshil, Alex Raeon and Andrew Swanson all earned second place trophies. Third place winners included, Andrew and Tom Pospeshil and Mark and Ryan Swanson, while Noah D’Arcy received a fourth place finish. In the kumite division, Joshua and Mitchel Huang along with Cyd Spencer all earned second place rankings. Alex Pospeshil earned a third place trophy while Devon DeCaire and Tanaz Naterwala finished in fourth place.

2009 Awards

In 2009, FSDC students received 9 Competition Awards, which included 3 first place, World Championships. Mitchel Huang became Jr. Men’s Black Belt World Champion for kata with his first place finish, and received a 3rd place trophy for both weapons and kumite. Tanaz Naterwala was crowned Jr. Women’s Black Belt World Champion for kata with her first place finish, and received a 2nd place trophy for weapons. Both Mr. Huang, and Miss Naterwala also earned the right to compete in the Black Belt Grand Championship, performing for a Board of highly renowned karate Masters. Devon DeCaire earned the Brown Belt World Championship with her first place finish for kata and received a 4th place trophy for her kumite efforts. Lily Kosaka earned two 4th place trophies for her performance in kata and weapons.

2008 Awards

In 2008, FSDC received 3 Competition Awards. Mr. Huang became World Champion for his first place finish in kata. Brenna Cameron received a 3rd place trophy for weapons and Ryan Tgiros received a 4th place trophy for kumite.

2007 Awards

In 2007, Mr. Huang was World Champion for his first place finish in kata, while Mr. Tgiros received a World Champion trophy for kumite.
