KIAI National Competition Awards

2019 Awards

25 students competed in the KIAI Grand National Isshinryu Tournament on June 22nd, 2019, earning 43 awards. This included 20 first place winners, 12 second place winners, 10 third place winners, and 1 fourth place winner. 

Rae Manela earned berths in the Black Belt Grand Championships for both kata and kumite, and Rowan Adomaitis earned berths in the Junior Black Belt Grand Championships for both kata and weapons.

FSDC also won special recognition as “Most Supportive Dojo.”

Earning first place National Championship awards were: Rae Manela (2 wins), Rowan Adomaitis (2 wins), Jesse Barrons (2 wins), Varsha Muppa (2 wins), Noah Bayma (2 wins), Khai Kowalske (2 wins), Reed Bermingham (2 wins), Siddu Kodali, Khang Kowalske, Lexi Maxton, Joey Saeli, Ethan Barrons, and Sathvik Sarapeneni.

Taking second place wins were: Trevor Adomaitis (2 wins), Manu Muppa (2 wins), Jesse Barrons, Andrew Adomaitis, Siddu Kodali, Ethan Barrons, Alexan Kazarian, Varsha Muppa, Sathvik Sarapeneni, and Eesha Kodali.

Earning third place finishes were: Trevor Adomaitis (2 wins including Sunsu Challenge), Evelyn Barrons (2 wins), Rae Manela, Lexi Maxton, Siddu Kodali, Manishvar Jeyaranjan, Molly Forsyth, and Neha Nair.

Earning a fourth place finish: Khang Kowalske.

2018 Awards

29 students competed in the KIAI Grand National Isshinryu Tournament on June 23rd, 2018, earning 55 awards. This included 20 first place winners (including one Grand Championship win), 23 second place winners, and 12 third place winners.

8 students earned berths in the Underbelt Grand Championships. Three earned berths in the Junior Black Belt Grand Championship, with Shaelyn Carroll winning the Grand Prize and Ameilia Chung winning the Jr. Black Belt Sunsu Kata Challenge.

Earning first place National Championship awards were: Shaelyn Carroll (plus Grand Championship), Ameilia Chung (3 wins, including Sunsu Challenge), Andrew Adomaitis (2 wins), Evelyn Barrons (2 wins), Noah Bayma (2 wins), Jachin Chung, Rowan Adomaitis, Rae Manela, Joey Saeli, Jesse Barrons, Ethan Barrons, Lexi Maxton, Adishvar Jeyaranjan, and Molly Forsyth.

2017 Awards

34 students competed in the KIAI Grand National Isshinryu Tournament on June 24th, 2017, earning 42 awards. This included one Grand Championship win, 18 first place winners, 8 second place winners, 11 third place winners and 4 fourth place winners.

8 students earned berths in the Underbelt Grand Championships. Three earned berths in the Junior Black Belt Grand Championship, with Ram Kiru winning the Grand Prize.

Earning first place National Championship awards were: Ram Kiru (plus Grand Championship), Jachin Chung (3 wins), Khai Kowalske (2 wins), Rowan Adomaitis (2 wins), Lizzy Arnold, Ameilia Chung, Saketh Ogirala, Molly Forsyth, Trevor Adomaitis, Jesse Barrons, Nolen Klassa, Alex Wirkkala, Jessica Harrison, and Lexi Maxton.

Taking second place wins were: Lizzy Arnold (2 wins), James Takeshita, Ameilia Chung, Trevor Adomaitis, Adishvar Jeyaranjan, Khai Kowalske, and Molly Forsyth.

Earning third place finishes were: Lily Kosaka (2 wins), Teddy Donahue (2 wins), Lexi Maxton (2 wins), Ameilia Chung, Andrew Adomaitis, Molly Forsyth, Ram Kiru, and Evelyn Barrons.

Earning fourth place finishes were: Nicholas Harrison, Evelyn Barrons, Ryan Daly, and Khai Kowalske.

2016 Awards

21 students competed in the KIAI Grand National Isshinryu Tournament on June 25th 2016, earning 49 awards. This included 3 Grand Championship wins, 15 first place winners, 11 second place winners, 13 third place winners and 7 fourth place winners.

5 students earned berths in the Underbelt Grand Championship round with Ameilia Chung earning the Grand Championship win for underbelts. Krishna Kiru and Shashank Swaminathan earned berths in the Junior Black Belt Grand Championship. Lizzy Arnold and Shashank Swaminathan won Grand Championships for Junior Black Belt Fighting.

Earning first place National Championship awards were: Ameilia Chung (2 wins plus underbelt Grand Championship), Leland McElroy (2 wins), Teddy Donahue (2 wins), Drew Adomaitis (2 wins), Shashank Swaminathan (2 wins including Grand Champion Junior Black Belt Fighting), Lizzy Arnold (Grand Champion Junior Black Belt Fighting), Trevor Adomaitis, Sneha Challa, Krishna Kiru, and Shaelyn Carroll.

Earning third place finishes were: Ben Matas (2 wins), Anthony DeFeo, Jachin Chung, Ameilia Chung, Rohan Challa, Jack Stephens, Trevor Adomaitis, Drew Adomaitis, Lexi Maxton, Anwesha Sarangi, Ram Kiru, and Shashank Swaminathan.

Earning fourth place finishes were: Rowan Adomaitis (2 wins), Anthony DeFeo, Sneha Challa, Rohan Challa, Anwesha Sarangi, and Ram Kiru.

2015 Awards

In 2015, 18 students competed in the KIAI Grand National Isshinryu Tournament, earning 49 awards. This included 2 Grand Championship wins, 29 first place winners, 11 second place winners, 6 third place winners and 1 fourth place winner.

13 students earned berths in the Grand Championship round with Ben Matas earning the Grand Championship win for underbelts and Krishna Kiru earning the coveted Grand Championship crown for the Junior Black Belt division.

Earning first place National Championship awards were: Drew Adomaitis (3 wins), Teddy Donahue (2 wins), Ben Matas (2 wins), Mitchel Huang (2 wins), Shaelyn Carroll, Jack Stephens, Trevor Adomaitis, Joshua Huang, Krishna Kiru, Lizzy Arnold, and Shaelyn Carroll.

Taking second place wins were: Anwesha Sarangi (2 wins), Jack Stephens, Rowan Adomaitis, Trevor Adomaitis, Shaelyn Carroll, and Joshua Huang.

Earning third place finishes were: Joshua Huang, Rowan Adomaitis, Teddy Donahue, Jack Stephens, Trevor Adomaitis, and Krishna Kiru.

Earning a fourth place finish was: Krishna Kiru.

2014 Awards

In 2014, 29 competitors made the trek to Gatlinburg, Tennessee earning 32 awards, including 2 World Champions.

Earning first place finishes (our new World Champions) were Soorya Ramappan for weapons, and Shashank Swaminathan for kata.

Earning second place in kata was: Joshua Huang, Krishna Kiru, Lizzy Arnold, Shaelyn Carroll, and Tanaz Naterwala.
Earning second place in weapons was: Amelia Chung, Mark Swanson, and Teddy Donahue.
Earning second place in kumite was: Ben Matas, and Lily Kosaka.

Third place in kata went to: Jachin Chung, Neha Gogineni, Ram Kiru, and Soorya Ramappan.
Third place in weapons went to: Andrew Swanson, Jachin Chung, and Shankar Kiru.
Third place in kumite went to: Neha Gogineni

Rounding out the field earning fourth place finishes in kata were: Anjali Joshi, Ben Matas, Mark Swanson, Ryan Swanson, Sonali Joshi, and Teddy Donahue.

2013 Awards

In 2013, 30 FSDC students earned a record 61 awards, 24 of which were first place finishes, including 6 Grand Championship berths, a Grand Championship win in Jr. Black Belt and wins in the Black Belt Team kata, Underbelt Team Kata, Kata, Weapons and Kumite divisions. Earning a National Grand Championship in the Jr. Black Belt division was Andrew Swanson for kata.

Earning first place National Championship awards were: Andrew Pospeshil, Andrew Swanson (3 wins), Anthony DeFeo (2 wins), Ian Kosaka, Kathy O’Meara, Krishna Kiru, Lily Kosaka, Mark Swanson, Mitchel Huang, Rohun Savanur (3 wins), Ryan Swanson, Shaelyn Carroll (2 wins), Shashank Swaminathan (2 wins) and Soorya Ramappan (2 wins)

Taking second place wins were: Abby O’Meara, Amelia Chung, Ahmad Raaiyan, Ben Matas, Josh O’Meara, Joshua Huang, Justin Frick (2 wins), Kathy O’Meara, Krishna Kiru, Lizzy Arnold, Savanna Frick, Shashank Swaminathan, Soorya Ramappan, Sydney Giamares and Trina Frick.

Earning third place finishes were: Abby O’Meara, Abhay Vora (2 wins), Amelia Chung, Andrew Swanson, Anthony DeFeo, Ahmad Raaiyan, Ben Matas, Hannah Watson, Jachin Chung, Josh O’Meara (2 wins), Krishna Kiru, Mark Swanson, Ram Kiru (2 wins), Ryan Swanson, Shaelyn Carroll, Shankar Kiru, Soorya Ramappan, and Sydney Giamarese.

2010 Awards

In 2010, FSDC students received a record 15 national awards, which included 5 first place finishes. Tanaz Naterwala earned a 1st place, National Championship, for Black Belt Kata, a 1st place, National Championship, for Black Belt Self Defense for females, and a 2nd place in Black Belt Weapons. Mitchel Huang earned a 1st place, National Championship, for Black Belt Weapons, a 1st place, National Championship, for Black Belt Self Defense for males and a 2nd place in Black Belt Kata. Miss Naterwala and Mr. Huang performed rare two-person kata forms in the competition to win their respective self defense divisions. Andrew Swanson became a National Champion when he earned a 1st place for Weapons under Black Belt level. He also earned a 2nd place for Kata under Black Belt level. Sister Ryan Swanson earned a 3rd place finish in both Weapons and Kata under Black Belt level, while Dad, Mark Swanson, earned 2nd place nods in Adult Kata, Weapons and Kumite. Devon DeCaire earned a 2nd place trophy in Brown Belt Weapons and received a medal for Brown Belt Kata.

2009 Awards

In 2009 Mr. Huang received a National Championship and Miss Naterwala a 2nd place finish in the Black Belt Self Defense Category, for again performing different two person kata forms. Mr Huang also earned a 2nd place finish in the Black Belt Weapons category.
